The Search for, and Discovery of Kronan

On August 8th 1980, Kronan was discovered by Anders Franzén (the man who discovered the world renowned wreck of Vasa in Stockholm harbour) together with three associates, as a result of purposeful research including archival studies, interviews and field searches.

The wreck of Kronan was discovered at a depth of 26 m, 4 nautical miles due east of the village Hulterstad, SE Öland. Advanced technology, such as side scan sonar, metal detectors (magnetometers) and low-light television were used in the search for the wreck
