At least five to ten seasons of excavations remain to complete the excavation of Kronan´s hull structure. Every year ca. 1 000 artefacts are recovered from the wrecksite. Hitherto, more than 30 000 objects have been excavated and cataloged. So far, ca. 80% of the hull structure has been archaeologically investigated.
The remaining structure is hard to excavate because it is covered with a thick layer of tightly packed artefact material and ships' structure. Below: The research vessel M/S Calmare Nyckel at anchor east of Öland.
